I thought that the movie festival would be a very good way to get students involved with the plot, characters, setting, etc. I went to one of the later showings, which showed several different short films. By viewing these short films, I started to see that I could incorporate many of the methods that I have learned from Professor Noden and Professor Kist’s classes. There are many ways to incorporate movies into a lesson plan, and if done successfully, can help the students see the elements such as dialogue, character development, and several other elements that help make a story powerful. Also by viewing these short films, the students may be able to create their own little short story or short film clip, that would then be shared to a small group or to the entire class. These films, although very short, do a great job in showing the elements that are at work in the development of a story.
Another thing that I liked was how the one short film put a twist on a very well known fairy tale. I liked this idea, due to the fact that I saw this as a great opportunity for me as a teacher to get my students involved with classic fairy tales or other well known stories. After seeing this, I realized that I could have my students read a fable, or fairy tale, and put their own modern twist on it. I feel that this would be a great exercise, which would get my students thinking more about the elements that are within a story.
