1984 and Little Brother

I have recently been reading the novel 1984, by George Orwell for Mr. Noden’s Teaching Literature and Language in the Secondary Schools class. Since I began reading this novel, I have realized that there are many other similarities from 1984 that appear in Cory Doctorow’s Little Brother.
Although I knew that these two books had several similarities between the two of them, after reading 1984 I have become much more aware of these similarities. One of the similarities that I have noticed is the main character of 1984 shares the same name that the main character uses as his alias in Little Brother, which is Winston. Another large factor that is seen in these two novels is the fact that Winston from 1984, and Marcus from Little Brother cannot trust anyone due to the way in which the government is running everything. I also noticed that in the novel 1984, all letters that are sent are opened and read, which relates well with how Marcus fears that his online conversations are being read by the government in Little brother. These were just a few things that really stuck out to me while reading 1984 and Little Brother, although these are not the only similarities between these two novels, they are the ones that really began to become more noticeable after reading 1984.
